Over 20 years ago, my leadership team and I embarked on a journey to clarify the key functions within our business. We aimed to understand how these functions collaborated to drive revenue, identify ownership, and trace the flow of activities. This effort led to the creation of the Key Process Flow Map (KPFM). We utilized the KPFM in our initial business, then our second, and subsequently with every CEO and leadership team I've coached. While it proved effective, it wasn’t perfect.
In 2018, we expanded our approach by training coaches worldwide on the 3HAG WAY methodology. The KPFM is a crucial component of this methodology, specifically Step 2. However, through our training and feedback, we discovered a significant misunderstanding: the KPFM was often mistaken for a “Process Flow Map,” which it is not.
After much reflection and consultation, we decided to rename the KPFM to more accurately reflect its purpose. It is now known as the Key Function Flow Map (KFFM).
The KFFM offers a high-level, internal view of how your organization generates revenue. This perspective is invaluable for entrepreneurs who are often unfamiliar with such a detailed functional overview. Once introduced to the KFFM, they find it indispensable for maintaining business momentum and planning for future growth.
With Metronomics, you can create and grow your organization based on the KFFM. Our software integrates the KFFM into your strategic planning, providing an interactive view that connects your goals with performance.
